My base rate includes consultation, labor, quilting service, thread, and photography. I charge separately for batting.
Price per square inch
I charge 2.75 cents per square inch for most edge-to-edge designs. A dense pattern choice may result in a slightly higher per square inch price. We would talk about that before any quilting takes place.
For example, a quilt top that is 60 inches x 80 inches:
60 x 80 = 4800 x .0275 = $132.
My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner’s square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.
Batting
I use and stock my favorite Quilters Dream batting in the 80/20 cotton/poly blend and in 100% cotton in two lofts. Click here for more batting information.
I am happy to order other fiber varieties of Quilters Dream batting like Wool, Dream Orient or their Green option (made with recycled plastic) for you if given enough lead time.
Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price.
Thread
I use Glide thread for quilting. The cost of thread is included in my per-inch price.
Let me know if you have a preference for thread color. If you would rather I choose, I let our choice of pantograph and quilt design inform my thread choice. I might match a light color in the background to enhance the texture of the quilt, or pick something more mid-range or contrasting to play up the pantograph design.
Trimming and Binding
By default, your quilt will be returned to you just as it comes off the quilting frame.
I offer the following additional services:
Trim – I will trim and square up your quilt for $0.05 / inch. This comes out to around $10 for baby / lap quilts, $15 for a queen size, and $20 for a king size.
Apply Provided Binding – $0.10 / inch. I will trim your quilt, and sew your supplied binding to the front of the quilt. Please include enough binding to cover the perimeter of your quilt plus 10″, to allow for miters and joining.
Make and Apply Binding – $0.15 / inch. I will trim your quilt, make binding from your supplied fabric, and sew it to the front of the quilt. Unless otherwise specified, binding will be 2.25″ before folding.
Machine Finished – $0.30 / inch. I will trim your quilt, make binding from your supplied fabric, sew it to the back of the quilt, and then machine sew it to the front of the quilt.
Machine Finished with Flange – $0.40 / inch. I will trim your quilt, make flanged binding from your supplied fabric, and machine finish the binding on both sides.
Hand Stitched – $0.60 / inch. I will trim your quilt, make binding from your supplied fabric, machine stitch it to the front of the quilt, and hand stitch the binding in place on the quilt back. Hand sewing the binding takes a long time, so this option will affect your quilt turnaround time.
Other Services
Quilt Back – If you forgot to piece your quilt back – or just don’t feel like it – I will piece your quilt back for a $25 flat fee. This does not include pattern matching (making the seam ‘disappear’ in a print.)
Photography
Upon completion of the quilting, I will take photos of your quilt in my well-lit studio and then text/email you those images to use however you would like. I do ask that you credit me for the photo and/or quilting if posting publicly. This extra service is included in your square inch price.
Shipping
Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in North Carolina, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I’d recommend sending your materials enclosed in some kind of sack or bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above. Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It’s a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don’t require it.
Payment
After the work is complete, I will invoice you via email and you can pay in person with a check or via credit card in Square. I really do appreciate timely payments as that enables me to get your project(s) back to you right away.
